Lightening, Deepening and Opening in Spring

How have you entered Spring this time around? Has it been easy to shed the winter layers and embrace the light and pace increase? For me each year Spring seems to come as a surprise; although I've deeply longed for more light through the winter months, the arrival comes so fast and so completely, I can feel a little resistant somehow. I'm not complaining, I love being involved with the gesture of renewal and rebirth that Spring invites, in small acts like clearing out corners of rooms which need attention. I can also recognise the parts of myself that need to be taken outside and shaken like a dusty rug, where my eyes are still needing to adjust to the light.

In Shiatsu theory Spring is associated with the wood element and Liver and Gallbladder channels. In balance the emotional qualities are creativity and vision - plus the motivation, decisiveness and thrust needed to bring our vision into life. When out of balance we can find ourselves in rounds of anger, frustration, and resentment - a woody sense of rigidity, stuckness and stiffness. Shiatsu treatment engages the sides and legs of the body, stretching, twisting and applying deep pressure to move stagnant qi and invite a free flow. As always listening to the body and responding to the need for grounding, space and restoration; a yin and yang approach. If this or any other body-mind-heart situation would benefit from support this time of year, you are very welcome to book in for Shiatsu or Holistic Acupressure. Mondays you can still book online - if there's no space/you can't make it please contact me direct for Fridays or Wednesdays.

Qi and blood flowing maintains a healthy wood element, allowing us to soften, deepen and open into the light. Whether its yoga, qigong, walks in the woods, runs in the park or dancing, the Liver and Gallbladder will be well in their element. Also recommended this time of year is eating plenty of green foods, and if you can get up high somewhere, the Liver channel opens into the eyes and loves to be able to see far and wide.

If you would like some inspiration and support of shared intention for movement my next dance class will be on Easter Sunday 5th April 10.30am - 12.00pm at Rose Hill Community Centre. Exploring the natural medicine of music, movement and community. No experience is necessary, just humans doing what we've always done.
"Energy moves in waves. Waves move in patterns. Patterns move in rhythms. A human being is just that; energy, waves, patterns, rhythms. Nothing more. Nothing less. A dance."

Wishing you well this Spring
